 It's final exam day!
-15 minutes of study time before the test
-You may have a writing utensil and your index card of notes only
-No electronics until after you have turned in your exam
-When done: read, study, find a quiet activity

71. What kind of cell is this: prokaryotic or eukaryotic?
72. Name the cell part surrounding each cell and its contents.
73. Name the cell part that appears as a small dot inside the cell.
74. In the cell:Franklin High School analogy, what cell part is the mail room?
75. What is the most fascinating thing you've learned in biology class this year?

Study for finals

-Study time!

-Practice tests are scientifically proven to increase test scores, so we're taking a practice test on Chapters 3 & 7 first today.

-Review all your materials from Chapter 3: Chemistry of Life and Chapter 7: Cells. Use chapter outlines, vocabulary terms, practice tests, active readings, and of course your interactive notebooks.

-Today is the last day to turn in any missing work from Semester 1!

-Biology final is next class! Eat good food, get plenty of sleep, review notes and give yourself breaks to exercise.

-Watch Study Skills Video

Chapter 7 Test & Interactive Notebook Check

-Happy Test Day! :)

-You have 10-15 minutes of open study time before the test. Use your time wisely!
This gives you approximately 1 hour & 15 minutes on the test.

-I will collect your notebooks for grading before I hand out the test. See rubric for scoring.

-Spread out, no notes, no electronics, no headphones, no talking while tests are out, please.

-Raise your hand if you have a question or need clarification - I'm happy to help.

-When you are done you may do other homework or read quietly until everyone is finished.

-Good luck, you're going to do great!

Ch 7.3 & Chapter 7 Test Prep, make flashcards

Presentation 7.3: From Cell to Organism
Learning Objective: I can describe the diversity in cells and their levels of organization.

-BIOLOGJEOPARDY! (click here for questions/answers)
Rules: Break into two teams. Pick a number between 1 and 10 to determine who goes first. I will tell you the category and ask a question. You will discuss with your teammates and look for the answer in your notes. When you have an answer you raise your hand, I will recognize the first person to raise their hand, and that person must answer the question. If the answer is correct you are awarded a point, if it’s incorrect a point will be taken away. Instead of the winner having control of the board we will give teams alternating turns to answer questions.  A tie breaker question will be given in the event of a tie. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins bragging rights and probably an A on the test :)

Art in Science...

-Make flashcards using Key Vocabulary Terms. Be creative! Use color and drawings to enhance memory retention and understanding. When finished, quiz your table partners! (If you want a quick set of flashcards print these)

-Helpful Test Prep materials: Chapter 7 Outline, Chapter 7 Concept Map (& answer key)  Practice Test, Practice Test Answer Key, and any of the materials on your online textbook, www.my.hrw.com

With neighbor:
-What kind of cell is this?
-What cell parts should be in the cell that we can't see with our microscopes? (all cells have these)

Begin Chapter 7: Cells

Page 26 in interactive notebook - Goal setting for biology class:
1. In what areas do you think you have done well so far? (attendance, engagement, organization/accountability, note taking, assessments, etc.)
2. What can you improve on, specifically? How will you do this?

-Introduction to Cells (Chapter 7)
After viewing the list of items, work with a
partner and make two lists: those items on the list
comprised of cells and those items not comprised of cells.
Give a rationale for each answer. (p.26 continued)

telephone pole      soil             rose petal          red = have cells
rock                      water          cow skull
apple                     grass          cactus
banana slug          roadkill       sunflower seed

-Active Reading: Introduction to Cells (put in notebook p.27)
Annotate and answer 8 questions. Complete in class & turn in for credit (20 pts)
